Michigan PREP Application Form:


The following application must be completed for consideration to participate in the University of Michigan Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP).

Please ensure that you meet the following PREP eligibility criteria before applying:

  1. US Citizen or Permanent Resident (only)
  2. Graduated or in the process of graduating with a baccalaureate degree in a biomedically relevant science, from an accredited U.S. college or university, no more than 36 months prior to applying to PREP, and are not currently enrolled in a graduate degree program.
  3. The Michigan PREP is designed to increase training opportunities of those underrepresented in the biomedical sciences as defined by the NIH to include individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds (socially, culturally, economically, or educationally). Applications are especially encouraged from students who are African American/Black; Hispanic/Latino American; Native American Indian/Alaskan Native, or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.
  4. Plan to apply to a Ph.D. program in a biomedically relevant science during the PREP year or after the successful completion of PREP. These disciplines may include Psychology (but not clinical programs), Biomedical Engineering and Public Health disciplines, but not Public Policy programs.

The Michigan PREP deadline for the application form, college transcript(s), and all letters of recommendation is April 22, 2014.

The application for 2014 will open March 1, 2014. We will be in contact with all applicants in May.

Letters of Recommendation
  1. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation addressing their qualifications, preparation, and/or motivation for graduate school in the sciences. It is recommended that these letters are from faculty scientist who supervised you in research, if possible. Recommenders must submit their letter as a PDF directly to m-prep@umich.edu as soon as possible, but not later than the Michigan PREP application deadline of April 22, 2014.
